When contemplating the pursuit of God’s approval, we are often swayed by secular notions of individualism, centering our attention on personal and familial concerns. However, effective living calls for more than individual efforts; it requires the support and solace of like-minded individuals who share a love for God.
Bearing this in mind, our commitment this year revolves around the theme of “Doing Life Together.” Enclosed are the principles that underpin our vision to exist as a united community for God. We encourage you to invest time in reading and studying them. As the People of God, we embrace the importance of communal living in our journey of faith.
1. Biblical Foundation
The concept of “doing life together” aligns with numerous biblical teachings that underscore the importance of companionship, support, and shared experiences in navigating life’s journey. (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10; Proverbs 27:17)
2. Supporting Others in Life Circumstances
The core of Christianity cultivates a robust community where believers build meaningful connections, through shared experiences and mutual support, that transcend surface-level interactions and foster a sense of family. This fellowship not only uplifts and encourages individuals but also serves as a dependable support system in navigating life’s challenges, emphasizing the significance of collective experiences in both joyous and difficult moments. (Romans 12:15)
3. Accountability and Spiritual Growth
Doing life together fosters an environment of accountability, where individuals can encourage each other in their spiritual journeys, bear one another’s burdens, and contribute to personal and collective spiritual growth. (Galatians 6:2)
4. Practical Application of Love
Living out the commandment to love one another is best achieved through active participation in each other’s lives, where a person has tangible opportunities to express love, compassion, and practical assistance to fellow believers. (John 13:34-35)
5. Sharing Spiritual Gifts
Each believer possesses unique spiritual gifts that can be used for the benefit of the entire body of Christ. “Doing life together” allows for the discovery, development, and deployment of these gifts in ways that benefit both the individual and the community. (1 Corinthians 12:7)
6. Encouragement in Faith
The Christian journey can be challenging, and having a community to share victories, celebrate milestones, and provide encouragement during setbacks is essential to one’s spiritual walk. (Hebrews 10:24-25)
7. Witness to the World
A close-knit Christian community that genuinely lives life together becomes a powerful testimony to the transformative power of Christ. The unity and love displayed within the community can attract others to explore the Christian faith and demonstrate the authenticity of Christian living. (Matthew 28:19,20)
By focusing on “doing life together,” the church can create a vibrant and supportive community that reflects the love and teachings of Jesus Christ. Join us as we study, pray, work, and live as the Hillsboro Family.
